Project Spotlight

EcoPort is now CTA 2045 certified and the Qualified Products List for grid-connected HPWH is available

EcoPort is the brand name for technology that has been certified compliant with the CTA 2045 technical specification. When a HPWH integrated with EcoPort is plugged in, it establishes network communications that support smart building applications. This enables HPWHs to react to demand response signals, allowing grid operators to shift energy use during peak times when the grid is overloaded. The brand name EcoPort was chosen through a stakeholder process including many AWHI participants.

The certification program (operated by the OpenADR Alliance, which also operates a certification for the separate OpenADR standard, IEC 62746-10-1) provides testing and verification that the product can correctly send and receive the types of messages defined by the CTA 2045 specification. Once a product testing report has been reviewed and found to be complete in its implementation of all the specification requirements, the product manufacturer receives the ability to use the EcoPort name and logo on its products and marketing material.

The promise of hydronic systems in building decarbonization

    Published by MechBiz

HPWHs are two-to-four times more efficient than other water heating options in conventional applications. Many of today’s models are equipped with advanced controls, which will allow for two-way communication with the grid, further advancing the role this technology will play in grid management in the future.
